Windsurfing near Calamus Resevoir

No doubt about it, it's the best place to windsurf in Nebraska. White sandy beaches with only a few fishermen and jetskiers to deal with. The ice usually comes off sometime in March. If you're tough and have the proper gear, the season typically opens about mid-March and lasts into November. A NNW wind is the best for wave/roller action, but a SSE can also be good. There are on occassion, a few deadheads to avoid. The Calamus Windsurfing Rodeo is held the weekend before Labor Day. It is a non-sanctioned racing event. There are a few kitesurfers that frequent The Calamus. It would be a good spot to learn, if you have a chase boat. The sandy beaches are forgiving and there is almost always a breeze.
