From May through October northwest wends rip through candlestick park often in the 20-30kt range, typically picking up in the afternoon and staying fired up until dark. Although the site looks like a place you'd go if you were a mobster dumping bodies at 1am on a tuesday, it's actually pretty nice for windsurfing. There's roadside parking, facilities, grassy area to rig up, a short walk to the water and an improved launch area. There are a few rocks to navigate in the launch but they only extend about 15ft into the water, so dump a bit early to avoid clipping a fin.
This site is a great alternative to coyote point for anyone coming from the north. It's about 15 min closer to the city, doesn't charge a park fee, and seems to have the same great wind.
