Centennial Beach Park, Tsawwassen, BC, Canada

***Go to : http://www.thewindsurfer.com to find the local scene at this launch.***

Boundary bay Centennial park is the place lower mainland (Vancouver) windsurfers congregate to during the fall months (Sept-Dec). Tiled washroom to change in which is sometimes heated. Gates open at 7-8am? and close at sunset. With E,ESE winds you find chop / bump n' jump conditions. On a big storm from the SE,SSE, S, you can get big storms and head high rollers. Shore-break is very reasonable (sideshore launching) as the rollers get bigger the further out you go.

Parking: Free & plentiful

Rigging: Grassy, right next to the car.

Bottom: Sandy bottom, some pebbles near-shore.

Best-time to go: Sept-April (Oct,Nov,Dec being the best)

Watch out for: 1) WEEDS! A weed fin is highly recommended to launch here. 2) Tide! Tide needs to be over 2m to launch here, otherwise expect a long walk. Head upwind to the boat launch for a shorter low-tide walk.

Windguru - side ID 6378 (link blocked) BigWaveDave (BWD) - [[1] (http://www.bigwavedave.ca/forecasts.php?page=1)] Environment Canada (EC) - text marine forecast

+ Look for a south storm (Pineapple express) pattern with strong SE winds shifting through to SW. 25-35 knots on EC is a good sign. Winguru with yellows, purples and reds on the NAM12km is also good.

+ If the wind is being called more from the east, wait for the sensor (iWindsurf) to read 20 knots before committing.

+ If the wind is from the east in the forecast, check for an outflow. A theory of mine (and some others) is that the outflow prevents the winds from blowing into the bay, while in the strait it is still 25+ knots.
