DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From I-295/County Road 13
(San Jose Boulevard) Intersection
1. Head SOUTH on SAN JOSE BLVD
2. Turn RIGHT onto LORETTO RD
3. Merge RIGHT onto COUNTY DOCK RD
4. Landing is at terminus of County Dock Road.
Be careful when launching! There are old, "historic," submerged pilings rotted to the waterline that extend out from the shore past the end of the new dock and end in a "T", more or less. They may or may not be visible depending on the tide and wave action, though at last check, there were two pilings out towards the end of them that were still sticking up above the water. There are a great number of them such that sailing through them would be very dangerous if not impossible. There is another set of pilings rotted to the waterline near shore and to the south maybe 1/4 mile, extending out past the existing docks. Bottom line, do not blast along right close to the various docks and think it is okay. Booties are needed here. Go out at least a 1/2 mile and sail out there. The river is about 3 miles wide here and has minimal current, maybe 1/2 knot, depending on the wind direction, tides, and amount of rainfall. The water is about waist deep or less where the platform is on the new dock, about halfway out the new dock, so it is very doable to get out between the historic dock and the new dock, or between the historic dock and the residential dock to the south, except in very strong straight onshore winds. The trees are too tall to allow this site to be used in offshore (SE or E) winds unless you have a longboard and don't mind the schlog. It works well on a NE, N, NW, and W, and is okay on a SW. The westerlies mainly occur in the spring.
