Windsurfing in Downtown Pittsburgh?? - Oh Yes! It can happen if the wind is right out fo the West. You can also park for free right in front of the Heinz Stadium if not on a game day. Walk across the road and down the lawn to the river's edge, launch between the pilings, on the ramp. Be sure to watch for barge traffic and currents. Experienced sailors only. But fully planning sailing has been had many a times when the conditions are right. Small chop on some days. Avoid NW winds as the stadium makes the wind swirl. Also avoid sailing after heavy rains as the water can be kind of nasty. You can also launch from the Mon. Wharf parking area (just off Wood Street, Downtown), but you have to tack up to the point from there. Happy Sailing!
