Excellent wavesailing on SW winds. Side-offshore conditions. Directly across from Canadian Hole, Ego Beach is a popular spot for visiting wavesailors who can simply carry their gear across the road and over the dune line. Usually, there is at least one windsurfer out in the ocean at this spot. When the waves are small, and winds are SW it can be the most crowded wave sailing launch on the OBX!

jkm adds...this spot is aptly named and often draws a crowd of onlookers from the hole. Ocean side just across from The Canadian Hole ( origianlly called “The Haul Over”) Ego beach is easy access for all. A quick walk across Hwy. 12 and thru the dunes and your ready to launch into the surf. The general rule is, If you are powered up in the hole of a 5.2 its time to walk across the road and get away from the weeds. Ego beach delivers a wide varitey of ocean sailing conditions. This year the sand bar has moved back out away from the beach a little which has provided a little more room on the inside to get moving so you can set up a jump or two on the way out. While not the longest wave ride on the island, the waves can be fun here, when it blows 4.7 its a blast with big moves on the way out and lip hitting action on the way in. Just watch out for the shore break around high tide it can get quite big. When to go: SW is the perferred direction for Ego. SW provides side off wave sailing conditions combined with a south swell this spot can be quite fun. NW works here as well but will usually be light on the inside. Times to avoid Ego are strong NE winds and straight South both of which create tremdous current and there are better places to go for these wind directions. How to get there: Located between Buxton and Avon, Ego Beach is just 2 miles south of Avon, park at the Canadian Hole parking lot.
