El Yaque is on the island of Margarita just off the Venezuelan mainland. There is no shortage of kit to hire, with about 4 or 5 centres there including, Club Mistral, Vela and Nathalie Simone.
When to go
The main windy season is Feb - May, and in March the wind stats are around 90%, it's a really windy place! If you just want to sail, then avoid Easter, as the beach will literally be so crowded you can't get to the water.
Sailing Conditions
This is primarily a flat water spot, port tack on the way out, though the odd 1-3 foot wave will come through to the sandbars and provide some great jumping. The water is fairly shallow for a few hundred metres then drops off. The shallow section on the inside is fairly choppy, especially when there are lots of people on the water. Past the drop off the chop is a bit more organised and there are some steep 1-2ft ramps. To get proper dead flat water for freestyle you need to come in quite close to the beach, which can be tricky with lots of swimmers around especially on weekends.
