This isn't the greatest spot in the world, but there are very few sound side launches at Emerald Isle. So if you are at Emerald Isle, and want to sail the sound, this will have to do. This spot is marked as a public water access, though parking is limited to the first half of the street (or you can park across the highway). Then you have to jump down a 5 ft bulkhead onto a small sandy beach, overgrown with weeds, and launch in between two boat piers. It feels as if you are rigging and launching from somebody's backyard, but then the spot is marked as public water access, so I guess it's OK. The water gets deep enough to clear a long fin very quickly, and this is a boating channel, so there should be no problems with shallow spots. The island to NE can limit the fetch in NW and SE winds, but it's well over half a mile.
