Windsurfing near Floras Lake

Floras Lake is an excellent location for beginner to intermediate windsurfers. I believe that it's popular with kiteboarders, too. The lake is waist deep in many places, and the wind runs clean across it for good slalom sailing.

The wind doesn't tend to come up until the early to midafternoon. But its often steady from then to sunset.

The lake is seperated from the ocean by a low-level sand burm, so the wind is mostly unobstructed from the west. Thermal winds fill in from the sourrounding area once the sun gets through to heat up the hills that are a few miles east of the lake.

The lake is in a beautiful setting and there is a small popular public campground that fills up quickly.

Only downside of the area is morning fog, which often socks the entire area in through the morning, at least in the summer.

Highly recommended.
