Windsurfing near Florence South Jetty

Classic summer wave spot. If the gorge has shut down due to heat, there is likely a NW wind to get you wave sailing here.
Use the South Jetty road. Tell the fare collectors that you are going to the Jetty, that way you don't have to pay the fee. Drive to the Jetty and park.
An afternoon spot. Sailing starts typ 2pm, and often not until 4pm. Enjoy the down-the-line runs.
Be careful. All ocean wave precaution apply here. Not a beginner spot. A windsurfer drowned in the waves here in July 2005.
One last thing. Florence is inhospitable for non-sailors on windy days. cold, blowing sand, and salt spray.
But, wow, it can be great here.
