A high andventure when it is blowing HARD from the SE, not for the timid. Best access is by boat from Big Lagoon, pull up on either the NE or SE corner of the huge island of sand. Can also sail across from the Naval Air Station, but the legality of that is debatable, especially if you're not a servicemember. Recent hurricanes have changed the shape of the exposed sandbars in front of the island from the sattelite picture, pic below is a bit more recent. An amusement park on every run. Head out from the sandbar(A) on starboard tack and hit a couple jumps off the small lineup of waves rolling in through the pass and setting up as they approach the sandbar(B). Keep going into the deep water(C) for bigger swells, make a few more jumps, jibe and head back in. Find a wave setting up and sail way down it, get spit out into a flat lagoon(D) blocked from the waves by the western side of the pass and lay down your best jibe and do it all over again! Pull up on the exposed sandbar(A) to take a break and watch your buds rip. Caution, currents in the channel(E) can be very strong when tide is going in or out. Great spot for kiters too.
