Get to the spot by taking Greenwood all the way east to the Lake. Greenwood is one block north of Dempster. You must have a permit to park in the lot, but free parking is generally available nearby. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, the beach is fenced and gated and you must have a season permit or pay a daily fee to launch --almost everyone who sails there gets the season permit. There is a nice grassy rigging area and sand beach.
Winds tend to be stronger in Spring and Fall. On a big N or NE, there are some serious waves and a shorebreak that can get pretty gnarly--the parking lot will be full. Anything other than straight west (offshore, tends to be very gusty and swirly) can be good. SW and NW are side-offshore, with flatter water and the risk of being blown out into the lake.
