Windsurfing near Kite Spit

Nearby Windguru Forecasts

Actually called "The Spit" aka (The Sandbar, Kite Beach) this is a fee to park location maintained by the Port of Hood River. Generally kited on west winds, as long as the water is low enough to launch, you can ride here but the main season is May - Oct.

Predominantly a kiteboard launch it does occasionally catch wayward windsurfers that drift downwind from the event site.

Gusty, crowded but a relatively easy spot to launch a kite from, the topography changes with water flow in the Columbia and Hood Rivers. Most folks ride from the end of the sand across the river into the channel towards Washington, but there is good flatwater inside of the sand in the mouth of the Hood River and occasionally kickers and sliders set up for advanced riders.
