Windsurfing near Loch Assynt

Best wind is a south west as high hills to south, east and north messes up the wind from other directions.

A post windsurfing trip to the famous Lochinver pie shop is essential.

Two launching/sailing options:

1. Pull in at side of the road about 1 mile west of the Skiag Bridge turning (where pin is located in map). There is a flat area for rigging in the heather ( bit rough) and a rough footpath down the 10 meters to the water.

Generally the loch goes very deep very quickly, but be carefull of 1 or 2 rocks a few meters in from the launching site.

2. Park at the layby on the point several hundred metres west of Ardvreck castle (west of the Skiag Bridge turning). Sail across the castle bay towards the castle. In a south westerly the bay is safe for beginners as will end up on a sandy beach. Launching is, as above, rocky but then goes deep quickly.
