Sailing Conditions

Wind from the right, flat water for 500m due to a headland and then out into rolling swell in the gulf of Suez which can get up to a few metres after a few days solid wind. Mostly 6.0 down to 4.5 winds with the occasional 4.0 day. But even on perfect days the water is uncrowded, and the bar is just metres from the water's edge. Dolphins come through almost every day and chase sailors around! There is a reef just off the beach but it's easy enough to avoid, and it gives some ok snorkelling in the mornings or on lighter wind days.

Kitesurfing

Just up the road from Moon Beach is another beach with a huge lagoon perfect for kitesurfing, with flat water only a few feet deep at most.

When to Go

Anywhere from April to Nov is best. Sailing possible year round, but the wind is less reliable in winter though there can be onshore storms which bring wind from the south and breaking waves on the beach.
