Nearby Windguru Forecasts
Definitely for experienced sailers only. Almost anyone who has sailed here more than a dozen times has a horror story. The current can get very strong. A flood will quickly push you to Angel island, ebb will take you right out the gate. This is particularly a problem when a wind shadow develops right off the launch. Sail on the ebb because it's easier to plane up and the swell can get awesome. Don't even attempt to sail on a flood unless the wind is good and steady. The launch itself is basically off the breakwater made of big boulders. There is one spot where they are arranged in such a way to make it a little easier.
Other than that this is one of the best sailing spots in the Bay. On a good ebb and SW wind right up to the jetty you can jump on your board right off the rocks and shred that mast high swell till your arms fall off. If the wind is right you can sail back into the marina instead of climbimng back up the rocks on the outside which can get tricky with the swell.
Sail sizes are genearally 5.0 or less. Look for SW wind, high temps in Marin and light wind at the beach at Crissy.
This place is not appropriae for kiting.
