Accessible at mid tide and higher Paddy's Hole is best in anything from South to North. Best in very strong westerlies and mostly fairly steady and wind chop only so pretty good for beginners and intermediates.
A very big swell from NE can give good waves which curve out into the back giving some jumps and long crossing safe rides. Some use by kites but be careful of the power lines. Also be aware of the shipping channel - you stop, they don't!
Some complain about the water quality inside the river mouth but never been affected in 25 years sailing there, apart from growing third arm!
