Pike Lake attracts 10 to 15 sailors on days when it is blowing strong out of the West. Beautiful, grassy rigging area, bathroom with changing room, some picnic tables (obsticals). No launch fee. State park sticker required.
Before the bouys go in at Memorial day (or after labor day), you can launch right from the sandy beach. Otherwise launch just North of the swim beach. North of he launch the water is waste deep for 1/2 mile out. There is a nice sandbar in waste deep water about half way across on the North side where people often adjust their rig or take a break.
Best wind directions are SW to NW. South can be very gusty. North wind is OK. Because of the hills to the east of the launch, anything east can make getting back to the beach a long gusty slog.
It can be blowing here when there is nothing by Lake Michigan.
The yahoo map is incorrect. The park driveway and parking lot is off Kettle Moraine road.
Not a good kitesurfing spot.
