Windsurfing near Point Lookout

This is an excellent spot with conditions that can approach ocean sailing at times. Almsot any wind direction except pure North is good. This is due to the fact that it is a peninsula. Winds from the west are sailable on the Potomac river side, winds from the East on the Chesapeake Bay side. The only real dangers here are the fishing nets on the Potomac side, and the fact that breakdown on either side can lead to long swims as the nearest land other than the launch spot is miles away. Also beware of fishermen on the shore, especially the farther north you go. If you do not go there with someone else, it can be a lonely place as it is pretty remote. Places to sail not far from there with more people would be the protected St Mary's College site, or at Solomons Island. The only facilities are some restrooms near the launch area, which is all the way at the end of the road after you enter the park. There is a nominal fee during the summer. Grassy rigging area available.
