About the best sailing in London (inside M25). Big kit required. This lake is raised (its actually a reservoir) which helps the wind a bit. Pretty much doable in all wind directions. In summer with winds that have some south in them you can get the (speculative) "Heathrow Effect": apparently all the hot air rising of the runways at Heathrow suck the wind in toward Heathrow thereby giving it some extra impetus.
There is a shop and they do lessons. Loads of space to sail, rigging is on shingle, getting in and out can be a little tricky as you you have a steep slippery concrete bank to deal with. Bit expensive either yearly or daily (£20 on weekends).
