Windsurfing near Ramsey Creek Park

Ramsey Creek is one of the few (maybe the only) place on the Charlotte end of LKN where you can launch a kite on a S, SW, or WSW.

It can actually get decent occasionally, but the launch is sketchy. This spot only works on S to WSW, ideal is straight SW which is almost prevailing thermal wind in spring and fall.

You MUST be able to go upwind and stay upwind to have fun at this spot. The wind dome's over the cove to the west of the point and if you drift very far down in to that cove you will not have enough wind to get out.

Best bet is to wait for a windline and launch on a big puff, edge hard upwind without jumping or losing any ground for 3 or 4 tacks and you will get into much cleaner wind.

Beware, you want to transition and come back E when you get about 2/3 of the way across the cove towards the houses / golf course. You will feel powered up, but it is mostly apparent wind.

Very crowded with boats and jet skis in the summer. Blow their minds, but be safe, and don't assume that they understand that there are lines in the water between you and your kite if you drop it.

Most popular launch technique is to have someone hold your kite just behind and to the East of the sign, with you standing in the water . Also possible to drift launch off the W side of the point. Bottom is sharp rocks, booties a must.

This spot is frequented by windsurfers and picnicers, our relationship with both constituencies is good, please be safe and keep it that way.

If it is windy at all (>15kts) a helmet is recommended. This spot can get very gusty and is filled with hard objects down wind.
