The name of this site is Marin Rod and Gun Club. It is sailable when the Northwesterlies are strong enough to reach the bay. Usually a springtime site, but it can be sailable in summer and even fall. When the fog is pushing from the south, forget this site and go to Larkspur, Berkeley, Pt. Isabel, Treasure Island or Crissy. But when it's up it can be fun. The reach is between 1 and 2 miles, depending where you choose to gybe. Often a shorty is all that is required for warmth, however early spring and late fall would be better in a full suit. On a very low tide, this place is not sailable, but if you absolutely have to sail here, drive over to Loch Lomond Marina on the other side, carry your gear all the way around the protective jetty and launch from there. Same wind, more water.
This site can be considered advanced if you're worried about being able to stay upwind, as the wind is side-shore and downwind is San Pablo bay and Richmond on the other side. Quite a walk of shame. On the other hand, if the tide is low but sailable, you can pretty much put your feet down anywhere but the boat channel.
Sailing conditions are flat to moderate chop. Sail sizes are 6.0 to 4.5, and rarely, about once or twice a year, a 3.0 may be the call.
