Schellinkhout is one of the most popular wind and kite surfing spots in Holland. The best feature is that the water is shallow enough to be able to walk for a long time. There are (kite) surfing schools operating on this spot too (surprise!). On really good days kite surfers may want to avoid the spot, since it becomes dangerously crowded.
When the wind blows aways from the shore, the water can become extremely shallow. Windsurfers will need to walk away from the shore a few meters. When the wind blows to the shore, the water will be choppy near the dikes but further from the shore there are nice rolling waves.
Kite surfers are warned not to get too close to the dike which has pretty busy traffic (bikes, cars & motorcycles).
From spring to autumn there is a car with drink and warm food on the grassy beach.
