Windsurfing near Sewer

Heckscher State Park aka "the sewer" is one of many popular sailing location on Long Island. The launch is on a prominent south facing point of land so it's a great site for most wind directions.

Shallow area near shore is good for beginners, but it does get deep at high tide. A weed fin is a necessity during the Summer.

Open to non residents in the summer months. Windsurfing permitted in Lot 7. $8 Admission

An easy beach to reach: freeway access to the park entrance, park roads take you right to the HUGE launch parking lot.

Winter alternative: Go to Islip, about 3 miles West. (Take the street across from the County Building to the water). Sailing conditions are about the same as Hechscher.
