If you don't know what the tide is doing, ask someone. Most regulars will know. Sandy beach area known as Playpen is a good beginner area out of main river current.
Main kite launch is a difficult on shore lauch with logs and berry bushes waiting to greet anyone who screws up. Upwind boat rides are sometimes available to an easier side wind launch bout 2.5 miles down the river.
