Windsurfing near Slave Lake

Lesser Slave Lake The largest lake totaly in Alberta, it is around 75 miles long and 12 miles wide at the wide point( Widewater). The main Beach (Devonshire) is a 3 mile strech of sand that runs along the east side of the lake. Launching here you will have to wade out about a hundred yards through a number of sand bars which stretch along the shore line.

Hazards are very few. Generally sailed on onshore conditions, so if you have any equipment problems, you generally wash on shore fairly quickly. Watch for shallow water by the river mouth or sand bars close to the shore. Sailing is generally parallel to shore. Conditions are generally advanced to expert depending on the wind strength. 6.9 type wind can get you breaking waves near shore and as the wind increases you can get 10ft waves all over the lake.

Season generally runs May through mid October with wind generaly front created, though the lake is large enough to generate its own wind if the conditions are right. Sailable in any wind direction without any east in it.
