Basically the best spot on the NE side of the bay for any wind with an easterly component. Does get crowded for this reason. SE winds generally pick up in the afternoon, and are best around autumn. (Yes, there actually is occasinally wind in autumn.)
Also good for a NW'er, if you want to beat the crowds at Green Point.
Watch the reef to the north, as this can trip up the unwary when shallow.
Always sail outside the yellow markers, as technically sailing off this beach is not legal, so stay outside the no-boating zone.
Parking+rigging is on the clifftop on Beach Rd for non locals (walk down the grassy bank), and down the bottom at the life saving club for locals (as locals have a parking sticker).
Dont go too far out in a SE, as any gear breakage means that if you miss getting washed onto the reef, you're headed to Altona or the back of the police/coast guard launch. (i.e., you'll be out there for a long while!)
