Windsurfing near Stoddard Hill State Park

Nearby Windguru Forecasts

This site works well during spring to early summer southwest thermals when the the air temps are high and water temps are still low. Under these conditions, the wind will tend to run up over the colder marine layer and shut down sites on the coast and not mix back down to the surface for several miles inland. The launch is a bit sketchy as you need to carry your gear over the railroad tracks to get to the water. It is also rocky and fairly deep so waterstarting is pretty much a necessity. If there has been heavy rain, there can also be assorted "flotsam" in the river which is hard to see on port tack late in the day when the sun is low. This site is largely unknown so parking is never an issue. It does not seem conducive to kiting.
