Sail on either side of the Pinellas Bayway depending on wind direction. Good shallow, flat water spot for beginners. Grass for rigging.
Some areas are very shallow at low tide so check the tide charts for St. Petersburg (http://www.sptimes.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/Tides.woa/wa/default).
Best wind direction is south-easterly which also alleviates the problems with the shallows by pushing more water into the bay.
PS: Bring a weed fin, especially for the summer months.
