Windsurfing near Toms Cove

This spot is within the Assateague National Seashore which charges an admission fee. The best launch is off of the circle at the southern end of the paved roadway. You can park temporarily on the circle and walk you gear to the water. The walk is about 500 feet to a sandy rigging area. This area is sometimes closed due to an endangered species (th piping plover) that uses this area to nest. If this is the case, you can launch at the kayak area which is located just to the north. This launch is not as sandy and does not have as good exposure to most wind directions. If you use this launch, make sure you have a short fin for low tide. It can be a long mucky walk.

North and south winds are excellent. West is also nice.

The water is fairly flat, max swells reach 2.5 feet. If you love the Outer Banks but don't want to drive that far south, try this spot.
