Breakdown:
Tyrella is a prime location for these directions (SSW, SW, and WSW) where the wind is normally quite clean.
Standing at the beach South-Westerly blows cross onshore from left to right. It provides cross on conditions for good jumping and backside riding coming in. SW is by far the most predominant wind direction at this location.
The good wave sailors all aspire to cross off conditions and the pro's also favour this direction due to the fact that the wind produces clean wave faces and holds the peaks for a long period before closing out. These conditions can prevail at Tyrella - but requires a W or E wind - with good swell pumping in.
Hazards:
1. There are big wooden stakes sticking out of the water in a line that are 3 to 4 feet high and can only be seen when the tide is out. 2. There is a rock reef to the left side from the launch entrance -a few hundred meters out - watch for this at low tide. At high tide it's completely covered. 3. Strong currents can prevail when the tide is going out.
Wind direction & conditions:
WSW = cross on shore (left - right)
SE = cross on shore (left -right)
SW = cross on shore (right - left)
E = Cross shore (left to right
S = Straight onshore
W = Cross shore (right - left)
