This site is NOT kitesurf friendly. There is not a decent bail out beach. Trees line the shore making for very difficult launch. Decent beach at Edgewater about 1/4 mile to the west (wind NE). We very rarely see kites here.
The nice part about this location is the break wall. Limits tacks to about 1/3 mile but keeps waves and chop down. Water will get about 1 foot chop in 25+ mph wind (open lake will be 6'-8' by then) Wear booties. Launch has small rocks which hurt feet. Also a lot of glass in the beach.
Not a very novice friendly location. Although the break wall is great for new windsurfers the beach does not offer a lot of down wind options. On E or NE wind only allows for about 50' of downwind beach. On W and NW there is about 1/2 mile of downwind beach but littered with logs and not a friendly walk back.
Beach Perks: There is a bar about 500 feet away from launch and since not a 'state' park you can drink. Great for when the wind drops. Usually a pretty friendly windsurf crowd of anywhere from 3-10 people on windy days. Come join us!
