Wijk aan Zee is an extremely popular kite and wind surfing spot. It is spacious with a very wide beach. On a good day you will find literally hundreds of people surfing, and still there will be enough room for all of us. There is a big dam (pier) on the South end of the beach, which you can avoid easily in most winds. Near the dam you have less waves but the wind is not hampered by it until you get very (to) close. Away from the dam the waves can become nice and high, depending on the (previous) wind conditions of course.
Although Wijk aan Zee comes acros as a particularly safe spot to surf, newbies should be made aware of the dangers of the sea (currents, hypothermia) especially in strong wind conditions.
