Windsurfing near Wilson Lake

The Corp of Engineers campground, Lucas Park (http://www.nwk.usace.army.mil/wilson/wilson_home.htm), is located on the north side of the lake and is a good site to launch from. Located in the prairies of Kansas the winds are usually out of the south and can be quite strong at times. Expect to sail on anything from a 4.0 to 7.5 sometimes all on the same day.

The NOAA graphical forecast map (http://www.crh.noaa.gov/ndfd/graphical/sectors/ictLoop.php#tabs) gives a good 3-7 day forecast. In the forecast element drop box select wind speed and direction then hit play. Lake Wilson is 28 miles east of Russell.

Facilities include 103 developed campsites of which 62 have electrical hookups and 8 have electric and water hookups. Other facilities available include shower buildings, sanitary dumpstation, playground, reservable group camp and day use shelter, boat ramp, beach, handicap fishing dock, and numerous picnic areas and vault toilets. Fees in this area also range form $16 for a prime site to $10 for a basic site per night. Fees are collected from April 15 to October 15.
